Review on Chapter Horegallu
Horegallu
The story named "Horegallu" is written by Sudha Murthy. Horegallu literally means a stone that can bear weight. She tells us about her special memories when she saw the horegallu in her village. She remembered especially two people, one is her grandfather and another is her colleague Ratna. Both them are linked with the horegallu.
Her grandfather was a retired school teacher and he would spend hours everyday on the horegallu under the banyan tree, by listening to the worries of villagers. A horegallu(stone bench) helps others to take rest and to regain their strength. Like, the grandfather also provides them a positive vibe. He could hardly have done anything to solve their problems. But he patiently listens to their worries and thus he was Relieving their burdens. He was a horegallu on which the villagers release their burden.
Ratna was Sudha's colleague and she met with her when she went to work in Mumbai. She was a middle aged senior clerk and she always smiled to everyone. Everyday during lunch hour she would sit with some one in a room and hears their worries. Sudha often wondered what they talk about. One day she asked Ratna about it and she said that the persons
with whom she talked shared their problems with her. Sudha wondered that how a person can solve the problems by listening. Then Ratna said that God given us two ears to listen. Even if we can't solve the problems,we can help them by listening to them. It will give them a relief.
By hearing this Sudha realized that horegallus are very essential to live. And there are more horegallus like the grandfather and Ratna and It would make the world better place to live.
